Notification dangerous goods

Notification dangerous goods

Each time a vessel calls at the port, shipping companies and cargo handling agents need to notify the Harbor master of any hazardous substances aboard the ship. The new Port infolink service Notification dangerous goods offers a highly practical solution for this.

The service Notification dangerous goods will be incorporated in the existing service
Vessel notification 2.2 and, in combination with Notification waste disposal and Statement harbor dues (two other new services), will make it possible to easily deal with all the liabilities surrounding a ship’s call through one single system. At present, the declaration of dangerous goods still takes place via Web Jonas of the Port of Rotterdam Authority. Once the new Port infolink services have been introduced, Web Jonas will however be discontinued.

The service Notification dangerous goods is highly user-friendly. All the ship information that has already been made available within the Port Community System via Vessel notification 2.2, Cargo declaration EDI 1.1 and Cargo declaration Internet 1.1 can optimally be reused. In addition, the layout of the new service is tailor-made for each target group (liquid bulk, others). Companies are able to operate much more efficiently.

Market parties & planning
The service Notification dangerous goods, in combination with the service Vessel notification 2.2, targets shipping companies and cargo handling agents in all port sectors. The service is being developed in close consultation with the Port of Rotterdam Authority and a
project group comprising members of the business community.
The market introduction will commence at the end of 2007.

Business issues
For the mandatory notifications about visiting ships, companies at the moment need to use two systems alongside one another: Port infolink’s Port Community System and the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s Web Jonas. This is inefficient and unnecessarily gives the shipping companies and cargo handling agents extra work.

Needless to say Rotterdam’s port business community would like to see this change. With the development of the new services Notification waste disposal, Notification dangerous goods and Statement harbor dues, Port infolink and the Port of Rotterdam Authority are anticipating this wish.
