Discharge list

Discharge list

The new service Discharge list enables container shipping companies and cargo handling agents to easily generate electronic discharge lists and send them on to the container terminals in the port of discharge. These terminals consequently see a great reduction in the number of manual actions they need to perform, which allows them to operate more efficiently, better plan and thus improve their service levels. The administrative processes at the shipping companies/cargo handling agents are also improved. The discharge lists are generated using container information which has already been submitted to the Port Community System earlier by the shipping companies/cargo handling agents through
Cargo declaration EDI or Cargo declaration Internet for Customs purposes.

The new service Discharge list in addition forms the basis for proper feedback from the terminal to the shipping companies/cargo handling agents about any discrepancies regarding the number of containers that were actually discharged. This takes place through the Port infolink service Discharge confirmation report.

Market parties & planning
The service Discharge list offers benefits to sea terminals, shipping companies and cargo handling agents throughout the entire container sector: deep-sea, shortsea and feeder. In order to participate, shipping companies and cargo handling agents must also make use of the service Cargo declaration EDI or Cargo declaration Internet.
The service Discharge list is being developed in close consultation with a highly diverse
project group from the business community. The market introduction has been planned for the first half of 2008.

Business issues
At present, the container terminals receive a high percentage of their discharge lists by fax or e-mail. It then takes them a lot of effort to copy these lists into their systems, with all the attached chances of mistakes. In the current procedure, the constant increase in container numbers in addition makes it more and more difficult to properly prepare for the handling of a ship and optimally gear the stack to the further handling of containers.

Moreover, shipping companies and cargo handling agents quickly need proper feedback from the terminals about any discrepancies between the number of containers actually discharged and the discharge list (‘overlanded’ / ‘shortlanded’). The information in the service Discharge list offers the foundation for this.
